STILL SO SURREAL
I can't believe that it has been almost three months since I have moved to this incredible city. I still don't believe that this is my new home... The other weekend, I was looking at the NYC skyline from Williamsburg and had a realization that I actually live here. It finally hit me. It's not just a fleeting summer in the city, this is actually my home for the foreseeable future. I am so humbled and thankful for this opportunity to live in the city.
A lot of my family and friends have asked me what it's like to live in the city.. And in one word I would say it's exciting, I mean after all, it's a city that never sleeps. I get so much energy from living in the city. The city's energy is contagious in a way. I love the endless amount of things to do, places to see. Of course it's expensive to live in one of the best cities in the world. I started budgeting and keep an organized log/ plan of all my expenses. I try to not eat out on the week days and treat myself to a couple meals out on the weekends with friends.
A major change was not having a car and so far it hasn't been too bad. Don't get me wrong I miss my car but there is so much to do in the city and around it that I haven't had the need to drive especially with such a developed public transportation. I am now getting better at navigating the subway after a couple of mess ups of accidentally taking a downtown-bound train instead of an uptown-bound train. Yes, one time I ended up in Brooklyn when I was trying to go to Midtown haha. I also love walking everywhere. My body feels better as I get more physical activity daily from walking a lot. Google Maps is always by my side but I am getting better at navigating in different neighborhoods.
I just moved into a more permanent apartment with two friends. Moving in the city has been quite a struggle, many uber trips with all of my suitcases haha. Lots of furniture deliveries and unpacking and organizing. Many recycled card boxes and pieces of styrofoam throughout the apartment as we try to settle down. I ended up assembling my furniture myself which has been challenging but also exciting as the room is coming together step by step.
